A 12hr Educational Workshop w/ Erik Marrero

Saturday, October 26 @ 1:30-8:00pm
+ Sunday, October 27 @ 12:30-6:00pm

Knowledge of Sanskrit makes it possible to grasp the subtleties of yoga, whose body of teachings was written in Sanskrit. Since ancient times the practice of yoga has included the study of Sanskrit and the chanting of Sanskrit mantras to induce calm and clarity in meditation. Sanskrit is integral to yoga meditation and its pure sounds essential for harmonizing and balancing the mind.

This Sanskrit Training will teach you how to approach the language of yoga as a yoga that is both enjoyable and inspiring. The first step in learning Sanskrit is to develop an intimacy with its sounds; become familiar with their exact location, feel their force and power, and the unique way they vibrate the palate and engage the breath. Above all, enjoying sound is at the heart of this workshop.

This training is an educational adventure that will give you a permanent connection to the beauty and energy of Sanskrit as well as a dynamic model of yoga in the classroom that supports a natural and effortless focus.

By the end of the workshop weekend, students will:

  • know the Yoga Model of learning

  • know the five mouth positions used to make the Sanskrit sounds

  • know the Sanskrit alphabet in Devanagari

  • be able to read simple Sanskrit words in the Devanagari script

Yoga Alliance registered teachers completing this workshop will receive continuing education certificates. Teachers that are not registered with Yoga Alliance and non-teachers, will receive certificates of completion.

Only $250 investment for this educational experience!

About the teacher/facilitator:
Erik Marrero started practicing yoga in 2007. The following year, as part of Yoga Teacher Training, he took a Sanskrit immersion weekend with Zoe Mai of the American Sanskrit Institute (ASI). He was amazed that by the end of the second day, he was able to read Sanskrit words. The ASI learning model made that possible. In July 2011, with Zoe as his teacher, Erik joined Trishula Yoga’s weekly Sanskrit study group focusing on chanting and studying the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and other texts, as well as chanting the Sanskrit alphabet and Maheshvara Sutras. In July 2013, Erik participated in ASI Sanskrit Level 1 Teacher Training with Zoe Mai. Since then, Erik has been teaching "Introduction to Sanskrit" workshops in the United States and Canada. Erik studies and teaches Yin, Vinyasa, & Ashtanga yoga and is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 and a YACEP.
