I grew up in Northern California, where from the age of five I swam, ran and played soccer competitively. I moved to the East Coast for college in 2002, and in the ensuing years, began to notice that years of intense training had left me injured, high-strung, and hungry for new ways to stay fit.
I remember working out at the gym in Philadelphia and watching the yoga classes fogging up the windows. It took me months to actually go to a class, because was terrified of doing it wrong and looking silly. But I finally took the plunge and went to my first class. And although I thought the whole thing was crazy and confusing…I liked it. Within the first few classes I was introduced to Headstand, and it was so different from anything I’d ever tried and so FUN that I was immediately hooked.
My initial attraction to yoga was definitely the physicality of the asana. But as I went deeper into other aspects of the practice, I found so many other benefits. Peace in the face of chaos, strength through adversity, compassion in times of grief, joy in all things – these blessings are bestowed through the practice of yoga.
I wanted to share what I’d found, so I completed my first 200-hour teacher training with YogaWorks Senior Teacher Joan Hyman. After a few years teaching in Philadelphia, I decided to return home to California. I moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2014 and completed my 300-hour YogaWorks Teacher Training with my mentor Joan and the rest of the amazing YW teaching staff.
I teach both Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga. My style is a challenging but mindful practice that emphasizes strong foundational alignment, intelligent sequencing and a joyful approach to more advanced postures. I believe that yoga should be fun, and that every student has the right to a safe and fulfilling personal practice.
