This flower is part of the daisy flower and grows in moist and dry prairies through the late summer months. It is used as an immune booster, as it reduces symptoms of common cold and other infections that compromise the immune system. Echinacea may decrease the potential for repeat respiratory infections. It should be taken at the first sign of a weakened immune response.
Echinacea has a numbing sensation that relieves the pain of cold sores, and also offers some protection against herpes simplex viruses. It also acts against Candida albicans, the microorganism that causes most yeast infection. Echinacea is a mild antiseptic on its own, but when fighting an established virus, combining echinacea with antiseptic herbs such as goldenseal (in small amounts) or Oregon grape to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment.
